Valorant Champions Tour Pacific Cup 2027: Venue details and tournament format analysis
An in-depth look at the Valorant Champions Tour Pacific Cup 2027, covering the venue announcement in Manila, the restructured tournament format, and open qualification pathways.
The Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) 2027 season structure changes how Riot Games manages its tactical shooter esports ecosystem. Moving away from linear circuit models, the 2027 calendar uses a tournament-first approach with more than 50 events across 15 global host cities, a global tour schedule and roster guide that defines the new competitive landscape according to the new format. The Pacific region is a key part of this roadmap, bridging elite tier-one competition with grassroots accessibility. The upcoming Pacific Cup involves a new host city, a revised multi-tiered competitive layout, and the structural integration of partnered and open-bracket teams.
The 2027 VCT Cups use a geographic rotation to bring international Valorant to local fanbases. Manila is the host city for the inaugural VCT Pacific Cup, scheduled for April and May 2027 as announced. This puts the Philippines at the center of the Pacific competitive calendar during the spring, allowing local spectators to watch premier international matchups live. Other global regions will see major Cups hosted in cities such as Mexico City, Warsaw, and Wuhan as Riot Games expands the physical footprint of the tour, reshaping the casual fan experience through increased accessibility.
The 2027 season is built around a five-tier hierarchy: Opens, Kickoffs, Cups, Masters, and Champions as detailed in the VCT 2027 overview. Unlike previous years where permanent partnership offered absolute safety, the 2027 system makes performance the primary factor for survival. Each region, including the Pacific, has a 12-team structure divided between eight partnered organizations and four squads advancing from Open Qualifiers. The season starts with a triple-elimination Kickoff tournament in late 2026 that guarantees initial slots for partnered squads. However, partnered teams that underperform can lose their safety and must compete through the Open Qualifiers like any other challenger squad.
Open teams have a revamped pathway to international competition. Throughout the year, regional Open Qualifiers run across 14 sub-regions, including South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the rest of Southeast Asia—including the Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore. To support challenger talent, Riot Games has introduced guaranteed financial backing, offering fixed qualification payments: $100,000 for reaching a Cup, $200,000 for making Masters, and $400,000 for reaching Champions under the VALORANT Champions Tour 2027 structure, in addition to standard tournament prize pools. Teams that succeed early receive advanced placement into later stages of subsequent Open Qualifier playoffs, provided they retain at least three of their starting five players.
